A Cozy Winter Maternity Session
Sometimes our original session plans don’t pan out, but fret not, I’m always ready with a Plan B (or C) before totally rescheduling. We had originally planned to shoot outdoors in February in Minnesota which is brave enough on a good day but we ended up having record low temps. So I knew for both comfort and safety reasons, we shouldn’t do a full hour outside. That’s how people lose fingers and toes and really, not much is worth risking that.
Michelle had her makeup scheduled for the session date and whenever we have multiple schedules to coordinate, I always like to find a way to make our original date work. It eliminates the headache of not only rescheduling for my clients and their life, but when you also have to reschedule around your MUA or hairstylist, then you’re trying to work within not only my availability and yours but theirs too! It can get messy, real fast!
Thankfully, Michelle + Tanner trusted the vision and were okay pivoting from their original outdoor plan.
So Plan B entailed booking the cutest little AirBnb in Uptown Minneapolis, MN just blocks away from Lake Bde Maka Ska. We kept the car warm and did a few outdoor shots (because I couldn’t give up on Michelle’s vision for her outdoor session), but really got creative at the Airbnb. Since Valentine’s Day was right around the corner, I picked up your classic V-Day chocolates in the heart-shaped box, brought candles, flowers, and a couple of little extras to cozy up the little apartment.
We were even able to do a beautiful milk bath in the clawfoot tub. And it was truly a wonderful afternoon.
Anytime we end up renting an AirBnb for a session, I always offer up the space to my couples for the night because it’s a great way to make a whole event out of your session. Make a dinner reservation, stay the night and suddenly you have the perfect little staycation.
