Landree's Birth Day
Little Landree was born bright and early in the morning on January 18, 2019. This birth was special for me because it was my first cesarean that I was part of. I’m a big birth + baby person and being able to preserve some of those first moments earth-side is one of my favorite roles. We put an emphasis on engagements and wedding days, why wouldn’t we do the same for the moments meeting your new little baby for the first time. With Landree’s birth, because it was a cesarean, we weren’t positive that I would be able to be in the operating room. Though that was the hope, and the plan, the surgeon or the anesthesiologist can change their mind at any time. So I showed up before the sun had risen, crossing my fingers that I would be able to join them in the OR as they welcomed their newest addition.
Thankfully, all went well and I was able to watch, learn and capture those moments when Ashlee and Brandon welcomed their second daughter into the world. The nurses at Lakeview Hospital were so wonderful and walked me through the process, describing and explaining the different steps of the cesarean. I LOVE a good educational moment and where I had always heard that the doctors and nurses in the OR didn’t really like extra people, I felt absolutely welcomed by them. They did all her newborn checks and cleaned her up with so much love. We all spent time talking to Landree, commenting on her little features talking about how perfect she is, and comforting her while her dad bounced back and forth between his wife and his daughter.
After Landree was born, I stayed with the family for another couple hours to capture those first moments of mom and dad with their new little one, the first feeding, some newborn portraits, and to capture Landree meeting her big sister Lily for the first time. Grandma and Grandpa also got to meet their newest grand-daughter and it was such a special morning to be welcomed into. Our Birth-First 48 hybrid session, was the perfect way to capture Landree’s birth and those first moments of her birth day.
Here are some of my favorite shots from that morning.
